Electrolyzed oxidizing water generated by the electrolysis of saline solution could disinfect completely contact lens contaminated heavily with P. aeruginosa or S. aureus by 5 min with 0.08 ampere (A) (P. aeruginosa) and 0.16 A (S. aureus) or by 0.25 A for 4 min (P. aeruginosa) and 6 min (S. aureus) respectively. In the solution contaminated with the bacteria of 108 CFU/ml, P. aeruginosa was disinfected by 0.08 A for 8 min and S. aureus was disinfected by 0.08 A for 4 min. Although S. aureuswas more sensitive in the solution, it was more resistant than P. aeruginosa to the disinfection of
electrolyzed water on the contact lens. This is perhaps because of the more powerful ability of S. aureus to form biofilm on the contact lense than that of P. aeruginosa. Our result demonstrated that electrolyzing the saline solution is very convenient and powerful disinfecting method for bacteria contaminated contact lens.
